Swivel Beauty

Swivel is a mobile app that lets women of color discover and book the best stylists for their individual hair type and desired style. Whether she wants to wear her hair in braids, curls or locs, Swivel offers women of color the missing resource for finding the right salon or stylist who understands how to work with their hair, so that they can feel valued and embrace their authentic self.

The beauty industry is slow to incorporate women of color in beauty trends, yet they spend 9x more on beauty than any other ethnic group on hair care. Beauty schools simply don’t train stylists on black hair, as a result, women of color can’t trust just any stylist to do her hair—discovery of the right stylist is key. Co-founders Jihan Thompson, a former editor at top national women’s magazines, and Jennifer Lambert, a Harvard-trained, former corporate lawyer, have created Swivel to be the best beauty experience for this underserved market.
